Greenbank neighbours unite for dinner

Hundreds of neighbours at Greenbank have this year continued their annual traditional of meeting for dinner.

The first ‘Long Table Dinner’ was held in the Covella housing estate five years ago.

This year, more than 350 residents attended.

The dinner remains a celebration of community and friendship, including buffet-style food, live music and entertainment.

Residents were this year encouraged to bring a plate of their favourite dish to share with neighbours, leading to a culturally diverse night.

Resident Yuliya Vlasenko said this year’s Long Table Dinner was a “delightful experience”.

“My parents arrived in Australia on the very same day of the dinner, and they felt so warmly welcomed by this amazing community,” she said.

Ms Vlasenko moved to the estate from an inner-city Brisbane rental in early 2023.

She said the Greenbank community was the perfect place for her family.

“Our small family loves living in Covella – we’ve had the pleasure of meeting wonderful people during our daily dog walks, visits to the dog park, and fitness sessions,” she said.

Bruce Harper, the general manager of the estate’s developer, said the local tradition reaffirmed the ties between neighbours – both new and old.

“With such a diverse population calling Covella home, the Long Table Dinner gives neighbours a chance to come together in celebration of the one thing each and every one of them have in common – a love for where they live,” Mr Harper said.

“Amidst the busyness of life, this annual event is a chance for our residents to take pause and make the time to get to know their neighbours – fostering a sense of social connection and inclusion that lays down the legacy for a connected community for years to come.

“This year’s event was another great opportunity particularly for new neighbours to get to know their community, nurturing genuine social connections between our residents who otherwise may feel isolated in a growing new neighbourhood.”
