Fur-tastic fun at Beenleigh Show

The highly anticipated Beenleigh Show will kick off on 23 September for the 144th time.

Boonah kelpie trainer Erroll Gill and his skilled four-legged workers will be showcasing their talents at the show.

Mr Gill has been raising pups and teaching them tricks for 15 years.

“We’ll be doing some demonstrations to show people how the dogs work in the real world,” Mr Gill said.

Mr Gill’s dog George is no novice when it comes to sheep herding – he’s tenth best in the nation.

“We managed to qualify to represent Queensland at the 2023 Yard Dog Championships earlier this year,” he said.

“We went down to Mansfield in Victoria to compete and placed 10th out of around 130 dogs.

“We ended up staying down there for three weeks and made a holiday of it.”

He said George, although skilful, was successful because of his natural instinct and desire to work hard.

“It’s a bit of both skill and instinct,” Mr Gill said.

Audiences at Beenleigh Show will get a glimpse into George’s competitive skills with a sheep mustering demonstration and some races.

Mr Gill said he would bring four dogs to the show, including some pups.

“We’ll do a few fun shows for the kids as well, where one of the older dogs will pull the pups, that are only about 10 weeks old, around in a sled and things like that,” he said.

“Each show will be around 15 or 20 minutes, so it’ll be good fun.”

The upcoming Beenleigh Show will feature its usual attractions, including a bull riding competition, a fireworks display, a Side Show Alley and more.

The Beenleigh Show is held at 19 Showgrounds Drive, Beenleigh and festivities kick off at 9am.

The ticket prices have remained the same as last year, with a family pass (two adults and two children) costing $35.

Individual adult tickets are $15 each, and a child ticket is $5.

Parking is available for $5.
