Free courses offer relevant training

Kingston East Neighbourhood Group (KENG) will again be helping people into jobs by delivering free training courses.

The not-for-profit program has state government funding and promises even more courses in 2023.

KENG Manager, Kim Wright said courses were fully subsidised, nationally accredited, and offered to members of the local community.

This year’s courses include Certificate III in Individual Support (x2), Certificate II in Kitchen Operations, Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, and a milestone first for us – a paid traineeship – Certificate I in Hospitality.

“The first of this year’s courses is the Certificate III in Individual Support which commences late February,” she said.

Demand for support workers in the aged care and disability sector is high, which makes the “individual support” qualification particularly relevant.

“We’ve got a variety of courses for different skill sets and different career pathways and we’re able to support students with resumes and work placements, getting blue cards, yellow cards, and police checks. Students even get a healthy morning tea on class days,” Ms Wright said

“For some people, education hasn’t been a good experience in the past, so we’re here to help in any way that we can.

We’re so happy to be able to deliver these programs for our community, so that more people can be skilled up and get qualifications that help with not just employment prospects, but also things like confidence, self-esteem, and being good role models for their children.”
