It’s hard to believe we’re already in September. At the start of each new year, I tell myself I’ll explore more of my local community, but somehow the months fly by. With just four months left until Christmas, I’ve set myself a goal: go on one local adventure each month. Here’s what’s on my Beenleigh bucket list:
September: Explore a walking trail I’ve never visited.
As the weather warms up, September feels like the perfect time to spend more time outdoors. Instead of staying inside, I’m planning to explore one of the local walking trails around Beenleigh, whether that’s along the Albert River or through a nearby conservation area. Sometimes we overlook the beautiful places that are right on our doorstep. A simple walk is a great reminder that you don’t have to travel far to discover something new.
October: Join in the Halloween fun.
October is one of my favourite months because the community gets into the Halloween spirit. From family-friendly events to themed markets and costume competitions, there’s always something happening. This year I’m making it my mission to attend at least one local Halloween event. It’s a fun way to meet people, support local businesses, and enjoy something a little different before the busy festive season comes into full swing.
November: Try a café that’s been on my list.
We all have a café or two that we’ve driven past multiple times but never actually stopped to visit. November is my excuse to finally change that. Whether it’s catching up with a friend for coffee, treating myself to breakfast on the weekend, or a quick stop to grab a bite before diving into Christmas shopping, trying somewhere new is an easy way to support local businesses while discovering a new favourite spot. One café that keeps catching my eye is Bloomora Café. There food looks delicious and I’ve heard their coffee is amazing.
December: Finish the year with Christmas lights.
No December is complete without a drive around to see the Christmas lights. There’s something special about seeing neighbourhoods transformed with decorations and families out enjoying the festive season together. I’ll also be keeping an eye out for Christmas markets, especially the Beenleigh Christmas Twilight Markets, community carols and festive events happening around Beenleigh. It feels like the perfect way to celebrate the end of another year while making a few final memories close to home.
Four months might not sound like a long time, but it’s enough to create a few new memories and experience more of what our local community has to offer. Here’s hoping I can tick everything off my list before the countdown to 2027 begins… and maybe inspire a few others to do the same.
