After losing thousands of dollars worth of equipment in last year’s floods, Logan-based QLD PNG Rugby League has been gifted a fresh start.
The club is just one of 17 Logan organisations to have received a share of a $334,000 as part of the lastest round of grants from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
QLD PNG Rugby League is president Tom Adamson said the club “really needs” the $31,000 in funding it will receive.
“We lost a lot of equipment to the floods and we just never recovered properly,” Mr Adamson said.
“[The club has] over 150 people – it’s just getting bigger and bigger.
“All clubs struggle… so [the grant is] very important.”
$11 million is to be shared amongst a total of 470 organisations across Queensland.
Logan Village Cricket Club, the Liberian Association of Queensland and the Forestdale Neighbourhood Watch are a few of many Logan community groups to receive a funding slice.
Amputees & Families Support Group Qld, a support organisation providing wheelchairs and other services to around 200 Logan residents and over 1,400 Queenslanders will also benefit from the funding.
Amputees & Families Support Group Qld state coordinator, Linda Tilley, said the $35,000 grant would enable the organisation to purchase a new service vehicle.
“Without these grants, we would never have had the funds to help us continue providing those services,” Ms Tilley said.
Attorney-General and member for Waterford Shannon Fentiman congratulated the grant recipients and encouraged all not-for-profit community groups to “keep an eye out for upcoming GCBF rounds”.
“It’s fantastic to see these grants are going to a diverse range of organisations across every corner of our State where they can provide a real benefit to their local communities,” Ms Fentiman said.
“This Government recognises just how important community organisations are in Queensland and will continue to support their tireless work.”
Applications for Round 117 will open in mid-April and close on May 31.
