Energy giant’s amp up SES support

The state’s energy providers will increase their funding to the State Emergency Service (SES) by 50 per cent following Logan’s “unprecedented” summer.

Energex, Ergon Energy and Powerlink will this financial year donate a combined $300,000 to the SES in response to the Christmas Day tornado that rocked the south east.

The State Member for Logan, Linus Power, spent many days with the Jimboomba community during the Christmas Storms.

He said he saw the work of the city’s SES volunteers during “some pretty tough and hot conditions”.

“This partnership means the SES groups, like the Logan East unit… can get the best equipment available,” he said.

“This also means the community benefits greatly as a result, as the SES crews are better equipped to provide assistance to their local communities in their time of need.”

Springwood member and energy minister Mick de Brenni said SES volunteers “lead the way” for the local community in times of need.

“Not only were local SES volunteers doing all they could to help local families, but many of them were missing out on Christmas and New Year festivities following the extreme weather late last year,” Mr de Brenni said.

“And it was Queensland’s world-class energy workers who stood alongside the SES Orange Angels as the first to respond to the Christmas storms.

“Today we’re strengthening our commitment to ensuring the SES have the right equipment to deliver the outcomes local Logan residents need in times of natural disaster.”

The public energy companies have donated more than $1.5 million to the SES over the last decade.
