Community spirit runs deep

Community spirit runs deep in the electorate of Forde, a large portion of this spirit comes from the hardworking community groups.

These groups play an essential role in the community, being involved in a community group provides a sense of belonging and allows us to take part in something bigger than ourselves, it gives us a sense of shared purpose that benefits us all.

That sense of social connectedness that we get from being a part of a community was the focus of the Stronger Communities Program.

Of funding, $150,000 was delivered to the Forde electorate to support some of our amazing community groups.

The Stronger Communities Program delivers social benefits by funding small capital projects, with amounts of between $2,500 and $20,000, to support Australia’s economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The program intends to encourage and support participation in local projects, improve local community participation and contribute to vibrant and viable communities. My office received a high number of deserving applicants which is a true testament to the strong community we have here in Logan.

I am extremely proud to announce that 16 community groups within the Forde electorate received funding under this program to deliver on their much needed projects.

These projects included the Rotary Club of Loganholme who received $15,000 to design and deliver a palliative care garden at Logan Hospital and The Centre for Women and Co Ltd who received $20,000 to increase their space to see more women due to the increase in demand for the service.

These are just two of the amazing projects completed under the Stronger Communities Program.

Additional congratulations to Beenleigh Quilters Association Inc, Logan Village Cricket Club, Be an Elf Ltd, Rotary Club of Beenleigh, Lilly Pilly Inc, Cornubia Netball Association, Cedar Creek State School P&C, Logan Make and Do Association Inc, Australian Breastfeeding Association, Beenleigh and District Baseball Club Inc, TS Walrus Cadets, Beenleigh Senior Rugby League, Beenleigh Veterans and Ex-services Association Inc and Headway ABI.
