Council’s three-year advocacy plan is a guide that keeps lobbying efforts on track.
It isolates projects that councillors believe are most important to the city, and takes them to the appropriate funding bodies, whether they be state or federal government controlled.
At least one of the projects, a Logan Central Youth Centre, has already received funding from the state government.
Deputy mayor Jon Raven said clear priorities were essential to ensure advocacy outcomes. The new strategy will target the next federal election expected before May next year.
“With the Federal election fast approaching we want to secure as much funding for Logan as possible,” Cr Raven said.
Some projects may require council to manage feasibility studies in order to create a compelling case for large amounts of money.
Council played a role in securing $75 million to upgrade and relocate Loganlea Station, and contributed to the business case for the Salisbury to Beaudesert passenger rail, upgrades to the M1 and the extension of the South East Busway.
This plan will be reviewed quarterly in response to emerging issues and new opportunities.
Here’s the current list:
• Southern Gateway Motorway: New transport links to unlock land and development opportunities through a corridor from Berrinba to Park Ridge.
• Salisbury to Beaudesert Passenger Rail: A public transport solution.
• Inland rail impact mitigation: Council has already planned to seek conditions on the project.
• Waterford-Tamborine road upgrades: Fast becoming a major arterial with Yarrabilba in the mix.
• Digital connectivity: Coucil wants improvements to digital infrastructure.
• Rosia Park Multi-Sport and Recreation Precinct: Council has budgeted some money but needs more.
• Park Ridge Leisure Centre and Community Space: One of the asks is an aquatic centre.
• Logan Central Youth Centre: There will be ongoing needs to support youth programs and services.
• coLab Growth Hub: Already launched but needs globally-recognised business ventures.
