City spruiks innovation journey

Logan’s journey to become an innovative city is set to be shared with international ears this week.

Deputy mayor Jon Raven will speak at the 2021 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayor’s Forum, to be held in Brisbane from tomorrow until Saturday.

Cr Raven will be talking about “Innovating at the city level: A City of Logan perspective”, aiming to highlight the City of Logan’s successes and challenges to build an internationally-recognised and connected innovation ecosystem.

“Our city is one of the fastest growing in Australia with a median age of 34 years, so council has long recognised the need to find employment opportunities in new and emerging industries to build prosperity,” Cr Raven said.

“The future of work is being driven by automation, globalisation and collaboration and councils around the world need to tap into that to support sustainable growth and economic development in regional economies.

“Our journey has been successful because of the strong partnerships we’ve built with local and international partners.

“We are starting to see our city’s innovation ecosystem mature and grow, particularly with the opening earlier this year of the coLab growth hub at Underwood to launch rapidly-growing businesses onto the global stage.”

Cr Raven said he was excited to share council’s innovation strategy with delegates, who will represent cities including Beijing, Singapore, Baltimore, Auckland and across Australia.

The City of Logan innovation experience will also be highlighted at this month’s Australian Information Industry Association’s iAwards, held as part of the association’s national conference.
