Businesses are busting out of their garage into professionally developed mixed precincts.
A new development was completed at Berrinba recently, and at least one of the units has been sold to an operator which was previously operating out of the owner’s garage.
Short Stack Printing is a wholesale phone and printing company and its director Trent Morrison-Francis said orders doubled during Covid-19 and the business required a bigger space to be able to keep up with the demand.
“We used to work from our garage and had equipment taking over our lounge room, but we’ve grown so much over the last 12 months so needed to find a warehouse to work from,” Mr Morrison-Francis said.
“Previously working from our garage and lounge room made it difficult to meet with customers, but the warehouse has an office and meeting room upstairs which has made customer service more streamlined.
“There was a huge shift in supporting and buying local during the pandemic and although once upon a time we did outsource, everything we do now is done in house. We even have Australian Made certification which we’re extremely proud of.”
Another rapidly growing small business that has made the move from their garage into the Wayne Goss Drive precinct is Envious Customz, whose growth over the last 12 months sparked the need for a larger, more practical place for business operations.
investLogan, a body managed independently yet funded by Logan City Council, identified the Wayne Goss Drive site to delivery “much needed commercial and industrial space to the rapidly growing local small business sector”.
“The location and accessibility of the precinct play a big drawcard, with the proximity to Logan motorway and other main roads a requisite for many commercial and industrial companies,” chair Steve Greenwood said.
Research by Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) shows 25% growth in new company registrations, pointing to a new wave of entrepreneurship.
“We understand that there are many small businesses within Logan, which are expanding, and we are pleased to be able to play a role in supporting their growth,” Mr Greenwood said.
“For local small businesses who didn’t think owning or leasing a commercial or industrial space was possible, we’ve delivered an offering that is suitable in terms of budget, location and amenity.”
Deputy mayor Jon Raven said the completion of the mixed business units provides a stable and secure opportunity for business owners, as well as long-term commercial returns for the benefit of the ratepayers.
“There’s a growing demand for commercial and industrial space in Berrinba, following the recent completion of the $512 million Logan Enhancement Project, which significantly improved road connections in the area,” Cr Raven said.
“The city’s economy has been thriving since its completion, seeing more people move to the area, along with their succeeding businesses, and the Wayne Goss Drive precinct supports the region in catering to this growth.”
