Are we sending the right message

Just an observation which may trigger people to think about what is being seen as acceptable in society.

You beauty, first big game of the NRL footy season and it should be a cracker.

Something to reprieve us of the current turmoils in society. Indigenous teams, Australia play New Zealand.

I’m sure us old fellas will enjoy and today’s young malleable teenagers will be inspired by these professional sportspeople (their hero idols) with pre-game smoking ceremonies and exchange of gifts etc in a gesture of good will and promotion of sport and culture.

Here come the boys now proudly wearing their colours. But wait, one side are all carrying spears onto the playing arena and the other have clubs.

Instead of an inspiring haka, each group feint a mock attack demonstrating (on national free to air TV), how to use these weapons as an attacking gang.

Now it’s a proven fact that promotion works, so I ask the question – was any thought put into this and should the NRL get a damn good slap on the wrist for this? Oh sorry can’t do that, a slap on the wrist is promoting violence, I forgot.

Now if you say this is observation is in any way biased or nonsense, would you agree for teams such as Cowboys or Raiders to feint demonstrate attacks on field with guns, horsewhips or swords?

The police and the general public are desperately seeking any ways/ideas to stop today’s youth from carrying weapons in public. Any ideas on setting examples of respectful public behaviour?
