This week was a time for us to once again reflect on an event that had an everlasting impact on our country, the Anzac (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) landing on the Gallipoli Peninsula, on 25 April 1915.
Each year Anzac Day is a time for us to remember all those brave servicemen and women who have given so much for their country in conflicts before Federation and in the decades since.
It is also a time for us to reflect on what they were fighting for… and that was to protect our way of life.
It is thanks to the Anzacs, and all Australians who have served before and after them, that we are able to enjoy the freedoms we have today.
The thousands of students who attended Anzac Day services throughout the week were reminded that without such bravery that they may not even enjoy the right to go to school.
We now live in one of the great democracies in the world, and that is why it is important that we exercise our right to vote, something we should remember as we head to the polls next month.
It was a privilege and an honour to attend so many Anzac Day services across our community, and I was overwhelmed and encouraged by the willingness of all those involved to embrace the Anzac spirit, ensuring their legacy lives on.
Lest We Forget.
