Anyone who grows orchids will tell you it’s a growing obsession, for all ages.
The Logan and District annual orchid show is being held on August 28 and 29, from 8.30am until 4pm on the Saturday and 8.30am until 2pm on the Sunday.
It’s at Springwood Road State School Hall.
Logan and District Orchid Society representative Phil McCallum said the winter show would be “an awesome display of orchids in 15 different categories  as well as the champions – Champion Orchid of Show, Reserve Champion, Champion Specimen of Show, Champion Cattleya  and many others.”
He said there would be a novice section for beginners, an intermediate section and open section for the more experienced growers.
There would also be table-top displays by clubs and individual members like Peter and Jackie McCully, adding to the beauty of the show.
“Visitors are able to buy plants, mainly orchids but also foliage plants  at a reasonable price,” Mr McCallum said.
A range of vendors is expected to include orchid nurserymen, suppliers of orchid equipment such as pots, bark, wire hangers and stakes, and fertilizers.
“Regular potting demonstrations will be undertaken throughout the two day show and  there will be a number of experts available in the plant sales area who will be able to advise on how to grow orchids,” he said.
“It is a pleasant place for a morning out.  People come to see the flowers, be amazed at their beauty and then join their friends for a coffee.”
The hall is wheel-chair friendly. Entry is $4.
