All go for Rotary members

IT’S been all systems go recently for members of the Loganholme Rotary Club.
October was Mental Health Month and Rotary Club members took part in the Raise The Lid on Mental Illness walk at Bribie Island to raise funds for mental Illness research.
October 24 was World Polio Day and for the past 35 years Rotary International has worked around the world to eradicate the disease.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation joined Rotary in 2007 and since 2013 the foundation has matched every dollar Rotary raises for polio eradication with a two-dollar donation.
Polio has been eradicated from 99.9 per cent of countries around the world, with only Afghanistan and Pakistan still harbouring the disease.
Loganholme Rotary Club members were among those who celebrated World Polio Day by taking part in a Polio Walk to Speakers Corner in Brisbane City which was escorted by a band.
A tree planting event recently organised by Councillor Miriam Stemp at Lake Breeze Park in Loganholme saw members of the public participating, with Rotary members providing a free sausage sizzle and drinks for volunteers
Rotary Club president Sharon Hansen recently hosted a high tea to raise funds for the Shelterbox charity which was attended by Rotarians and friends.
Money raised from that event was presented to Australian chairman of Shelterbox Paul Roger at a Rotary dinner meeting where he gave a presentation about Shelterbox and a cheque for $1285 was presented to the charity.
Loganholme Rotary Club provided a free barbecue and drinks at the recent Relay for Life fundraiser at Beenleigh and the club has a fundraiser movie night coming up on Sunday November 14 where the latest James Bond movie will be screened with all proceeds to Polio Plus and a Rotary foundation.
