Historical musical ‘The Rhythms of Ireland’ will bring a taste of the Emerald Isle back to Logan.
‘The Rhythms of Ireland’, a stage production using song and dance to tell Ireland’s history, is headed to the Logan Entertainment Centre on 11 July.
It has been described as a blend of ” traditional Irish step-dancing with contemporary choreography” and Irish music and song.
This tour is the 15 year anniversary Australian tour, spanning two months and more than 30 locations across the country.
A member of the cast, Allihies-born Giselle O’Meara, is on her second tour of the show.
“It is so nice to be back in Australia,” she said.
“Especially because of the weather.
“It beats any Irish weather, that’s for sure.”
She said she was excited to be performing in Logan again, largely because of the local people.
“It’s so nice when you get a good crowd – it makes such a difference,” she said.
“It’s great to have Aussies who either have Irish heritage or just love the music.”
Ms O’Meara said there was a large Irish community in Australia, and the show would “bring them back to their Irish roots”.
“The show is kind of nostalgic for older people, who might be listening back to songs they think haven’t heard in years, or seeing the dancing they might have performed when they were younger and just having that whole experience again,” she said.
“For the last 11 years. I’ve been touring the world and I have been very lucky to be able to do that.
“I’m feeling very grateful to be here in Australia because that is the top choice of places you want to come to.”
Ms O’Meara said it wasn’t a choice to start dancing, rather something she was destined to do.
“My mother was a dancer… and she wanted to make sure we were fully invested in our Irish culture,” she said.
“My grandfather played the accordion and the melodeon, so they would [perform for] people who came around for morning tea.
“My mum would put her shoes on and my granddad would play a little real or a jig for her… and then that kind of passed down the line.”
Now, Ms O’Meara has had a succesful decade in the industry, winning many competitions and championships, and performing professionally since she was 18 – sometimes with the likes of Dolly Parton and hozier.
‘The Rhythms of Ireland’ is playing 7.30pm today (Tuesday 11 July) at the Logan Entertainment Centre.
