Sport, it’s a topic I could talk about for hours. The positive impact that sport and all it entails has on communities is invaluable.
Anyone who knows will have heard me talk about the importance of sport for so many reasons.
It’s a great way for children to learn teamwork and responsibility, perseverance, discipline, and competition.
It provides guidance and it is character building.
I’m a firm believer being part of a sporting club has many benefits to shaping us as people, so I was a thrilled to announce a new partnership between Council and Queensland Rugby League (QRL) last week that will see Council’s Logan Metro Sports Park revived as the city’s flagship rugby league facility.
The City of Logan has long held a formidable reputation for being rugby league heartland and this new partnership will strengthen Logan’s proud reputation as a rugby league heartland and nursery of talent.
The activation of the Logan Metro multi-field complex by QRL will see it play host to school rugby league carnivals and it will be home to the Browns Plains Bears RLFC and Souths Logan Magpies. It will become a venue where people of all ages can access rugby league, creating pathways from juniors right through to seniors without having to leave the complex or city.
Logan’s rugby league success over the years is in no small part due to role of clubs like Souths Logan Magpies.
Having Souths Logan Magpies based in the City of Logan provides opportunities for younger players and as well as a pathway to the NRL.
Through this partnership Council will invest in facilities and opportunities in support of the QRL’s commitment to deliver benefits to the community over the years to come.
Investing in our kids, our clubs and our sporting facilities is something that I have championed as Mayor and as a Council we want to ensure we give our young people every chance to be their best.
