A separate law for opinionated politicians

Labor’s planned Misinformation Laws shouldn’t be imposed on the people of Forde.

The Albanese Government’s plan would amount an attack on freedom of speech and expression across the entire country, and that for starters isn’t right.

Under the Labor Government’s planned legislation, there‘d be one rule for Government MPs and another for other Australians who simply want their say.

Labor’s plans have now been set out in the draft of the Communications Legislation Amendment (Combatting Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2023.

This bill was clearly dreamed up in Canberra, and it would have terrible impacts on free speech within our local communities.

Freedom of speech is fundamental to our democracy and the Coalition will oppose this Bill.

The definition of misinformation is so broad that it could capture many statements made by Australians in the context of any form of political debate.

Under the Government’s proposed laws, the Australian Communications and Media Authority would gain sweeping powers that would require any Australian to appear at a time and place of its choosing to answer questions about misinformation or disinformation.  The Government has got this horribly wrong.

You can have your say on these laws before August 20 by clicking the link below.
