A green balancing strategy

People are being invited to comment on a 10-year strategy for the City of Logan, which is geared to find a balance between rapid development and the city’s natural environments.

The long-term strategy plans to bring together a range of existing policies, plans and programs along with community feedback.

It would be built on three themes:

• Nature is protected and enhanced

• Nature is connected

• Nature is celebrated

Deputy mayor Jon Raven said people were passionate about everything connected to our local natural enviornments.

“Which is why finding the balance between our high rate of housing development in the city and protecting our key green spaces and waterways is so important,” he said.

“We need feedback from the community to make sure that we are working together on the same plan to protect and enhance our natural environments and the plants and animals that call them home.”

The draft strategy builds on existing Environmental Conservation Program (ECP) programs including Habitats Connections, Land for Wildlife and other voluntary restoration and conservation agreements and covenants.

The number of landowners joining Council’s ECP programs has grown by 70% in the past two years and is now close to 550 properties across the city.
