A family haven, a safety net

Samantha French, a Daisy Hill resident for over two decades, calls 6 Sherwood Crescent ‘the perfect spot’ for raising a family.

Now, with her children grown and independent, she and her husband are bidding farewell to their beloved home.

“It has definitely seen its fair share of excess teenagers, so it has really proven to be a house of safety,” Ms French said.

“But it has also been a great entertaining house, where we have had parties of up to 80 people and celebrated milestone birthdays and things like that.

“It’s the house where I raised my family – my kids are aged from 19-30, so they have spent most of their lives here.”

She said the family had done a “fair amount of work” to the house since they moved in 2001.

“When we bought it, it was an L-shaped bungalow with three bedrooms,” she said.

“Over the time we’ve been here, we’ve transformed it into a four-bedroom, two-bathroom square house.”

While the house itself has been completely transformed, Ms French left the outdoors in its natural state.

“A lot of the bush setting was already here, so we’ve left it relatively untamed,” she said.

“And it has attracted a lot of wildlife – we have a resident family of kookaburras, king parrots, goannas from time to time, water dragons and an abundance of birdlife.

“For me, it was important to have a lot of trees around, so this suited my need to be in the bush while still being in suburbia.”

Ms French said her husband grew up nearby, so they knew the area well.

“Proximity to schools was important for us,” she said.

“It’s perfect for young, growing families who work in either Brisbane or Gold Coast – it has been ideal for me when I work in the city and then going to beaches on the weekend.

“But that’s Logan in general, isn’t it – the perfect spot between two places.”

She said the property offered a “relaxing and calming lifestyle”.

“It’s a bit of a sanctuary in the middle of it all,” Ms French said.

“And we’re right beside a creek runoff so there are only neighbours on one side of us.

“It’s a great street with lots of young kids – it’s safe and secure.

“It’s perfect for a family to utilise this space that we just don’t need anymore.”
