Seniors getting out and about again

Seniors provide insight into pandemic’s past.

The City of Logan is home to over 36,000 seniors who have all been incredibly resilient over the past few months, despite the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As restrictions have eased, I have enjoyed catching up with some of our seniors in person again (in a COVIDSafe way) which has provided me with an insightful view of their lives and experiences.

Normally, during this time of year seniors across Logan would be gathering at my annual Forde Seniors Expo. Sadly, this year’s expo has been cancelled and seniors will instead receive an updated seniors’ guide coming to your mailbox soon.

Many of our seniors have lived through health crises that have swept the world before, some have served in battles across the seas and lived through recessions like the one we are experiencing today.

It comes as no surprise then that our community can continue to rely on the wisdom and experience that our seniors contribute each and every day as we cross the bridge to recovery.

Stories of hard work and sacrifice are a pertinent reminder to current and future generations that we must equally work hard to build upon the foundations set by those who came before us.

It is vital that our nation gives back to our Seniors through the provision of health care, respite and rehabilitation facilities, aged support and employment services; together with advice and assistance for self-funded retirees.

Locally, the Morrison Government has delivered additional funding for Meals on Wheels services in Shailer Park and Beenleigh to invest in new equipment and ramp up their services, providing much needed support to seniors during a difficult and uncertain time.

I am proud to represent you and your interests in our Nation’s Parliament and will continue to deliver the services that seniors rely on here in Logan.
