Thanks to Queensland’s response to Covid-19, our state has strengthened its reputation as the place to be.
That’s why it’s predicted, over the four years to 2023-24, 88% of all net domestic migration gains will be in Queensland.
The City of Logan and areas like my electorate of Woodridge will welcome many new families during this time.
This will further strengthen our region, but it will see greater demands on our roads and public transport network.
With the Beenleigh and Gold Coast rail lines at capacity, our government is planning to create a faster rail service along this vital transport corridor.
This will allow for increased services, more express trains, improved safety for pedestrians and motorists, and reduced travel times.
The Palaszczuk Labor Government is committed to building the infrastructure our growing state needs, and listening to the people of our state.
With the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail Project we’re looking to deliver another important transport solution, in close consultation with the community.
The project proposes to double capacity of the Gold Coast rail line, increase the number of tracks between Kuraby and Beenleigh from two to four, and will add about 20km of new track.
This will unlock many suburban bottlenecks to allow more frequent and reliable train services for local commuters.
The proposed upgrades will also alleviate congestion and fix existing blackspots by removing five level crossings at Woodridge, Kuraby, Bethania, Holmview and Beenleigh.
Extensive consultation on the project is underway, and I’ll continue listening to all voices to ensure the end result offers maximum long-term benefits for our community with the least possible disruption.
Because what my electorate of Woodridge and the city of Logan can be sure of – I’ll always fight for their best interests.
This transport investment, and others like it, are part of Queensland’s Covid-19 Economic Recovery Plan to secure the future of our state.
I thank every Logan resident who has provided valuable comment on the proposed project, with more community feedback sessions planned in the coming weeks.
