High tea, artisan coffee and distilled rum are tourism award finalists

A quaint teashop serving traditional high tea is one of three Logan businesses named as finalists in the Queensland Tourism Awards.

Devon Pixies at Kingston, Beenleigh Artisan Distillery and Extraction Artisan Coffee at Slacks Creek are in the running for the top awards.

Devon Pixies owner Arwen McGregor said she was excited by the nomination.

“We are the only dedicated high tea place in Logan and we keep it pretty traditional,” Ms McGregor said.

“We have little ribbon sandwiches, savoury bites, and scones made every day onsite with really thick dollop cream and a good jam, a signature cupcake and two sweet bites that vary.”

Ms McGregor’s favourite is the caramel slice.

“It’s very popular and gluten free,” she said.

“All our teacups have been donated by people in our community over the years who are happy to see them get a new life.”

Tucked away in a 100-year-old workers cottage in the Kingston Butter Factory Precinct, Ms McGregor said high tea was an opportunity to slow down and connect with friends.

“High tea gives you that reason to stop and talk to each other over tea or coffee and little bites,” she said.

“It doesn’t have to be a baby shower or a special occasion, it’s special for you and a couple of friends to just sit down to talk and catch up.”

Queensland Tourism Industry Council chief executive officer Natassia Wheeler said entrants had to demonstrate a high standard through their submission and the judging process, to be named a finalist.

“Preparing an entry asks businesses to look closely at how they operate, the visitor experience they provide, their achievements and where they can continue to improve,” Ms Wheeler said.

“That process of reflection and benchmarking is enormously valuable.”

The winners will be announced on Friday 6 November at the 2026 Queensland Tourism Awards Gala on the Gold Coast.
