Logan City Council will run free emergency planning workshops to help seniors and residents with additional needs prepare for floods, storms, heatwaves and other disasters.
The Person-Centred Emergency Planning workshops will support residents with significant health or support needs to document practical issues such as medication, mobility aids, medical equipment, transport needs and evacuation timing.
Logan Mayor Jon Raven said the workshops were important because disasters did not affect everyone the same way.
“For many older residents, planning ahead can literally be life-saving,” Cr Raven said.
“Evacuation centres are not designed to meet complex medical or care needs.
“Without a plan, people can end up in hospital simply because they weren’t prepared, putting stress on themselves and the health system.”
Workshops will be held at Logan West Library on Thursday, 28 May and Thursday, 11 June; Logan North Library on Friday, 5 June and Friday, 12 June and; Beenleigh Library on Friday, 19 June and Friday, 26 June.
Each workshop runs from 10am to 1pm across two sessions, with a light lunch provided.
