Artists living with a disability have until Friday 29 May to enter FIRST Service Inc’s third annual GRIND skate-deck art exhibition at Loganholme, which has already drawn more than 100 entries.
The 2026 GRIND exhibition will be held in July with the theme “Myths, Monsters & Mayhem”, giving artists a blank skateboard deck to turn into an artwork.
FIRST Service said the exhibition was designed to connect its members with the wider community and showcase the talents of people living with disability.
“GRIND is a way to connect the members of FIRST with their community, to showcase the talents of people living with disabilities to the broader community, to engage people of all abilities and ages with their creative side and provide a safe and inclusive environment to display their work,” the FIRST Service team said.
The organisation said this year’s event had received its biggest response yet.
“This is the 3rd year running GRIND and we’ve had our biggest response with over 100 entries so far,” the team said.
“For us seeing the event come together with the support of the community is always the most exciting aspect.
“The faces of those as they walk around the exhibition in awe of the work that is produced by the artists. The energy that the exhibition brings is amazing.”
FIRST Service said choosing a theme was difficult because organisers did not want to limit artists’ creativity.
“The theme Myths, Monsters and Mayhem came from a brainstorming session talking about past entries and where that led us was Monsters … the rest just fell into place from there,” the team said.
The exhibition will open for schools and disability organisations at First Service at 38/17 Cairns St, Loganholme from 10am to 1pm on Friday, 24 July, before the official exhibition opening from 5pm to 9pm on Saturday, 25 July.
Some artworks will be available for sale, with artists receiving the money if their work is sold.
The Saturday event will include a food truck and live entertainment from professional skater Jesse Noonan.
