Men’s sheds a vital role in health

We know that being productive, contributing to our community, having strong social connections and feeling part of something larger than ourselves are important indicators of good mental and physical health.

Men’s Sheds play a vitally important role in men’s health – not just during Men’s Health Week, but every week.

We are fortunate to have six Men’s Sheds in our immediate community – Beenleigh, Logan Village, Logan City, Pimpama, Park Ridge, Logan Districts and Greenbank.

As well as giving men a sense of purpose and a useful outlet, the Men’s Shed movement has become a powerful tool in helping to alleviate a sense of social isolation and in contributing to better health.

I’m delighted that the government has recently announced the newest round of the National Men’s Sheds Development Program.

Under the current grant round, Men’s Sheds can apply for financial support across three categories: Health, Wellbeing and Events; Shed Improvements and Equipment.

Men’s Sheds are an integral part of our local communities and supporting them is part of this government’s comprehensive approach to improving the health of Australian men and boys.

All the Men’s Sheds in my electorate will have received information on the grant opportunity, but for anyone outside the electorate – applications for the next round of Men’s Sheds grants is open until 26 July 2021.
