Pool therapy sessions help ignite movement

THE Fizzio For Life team is excited to be a finalist in the Logan Business Awards.
The company has been a proud Logan business since 2011 and contributes its growth to the way the community in Logan look after those who look after them.
This support has allowed Fizzio For Life to grow from a small two-room clinic, to a much larger facility, with its own exercise studio and recently a brand new aquatic therapy pool, the only one of it’s kind on the Southside of Brisbane.
“We have always tried to be innovative in terms of niche services we provide,” director Michael Gilbert said, citing the clinic’s introduction of cancer rehabilitation and lymphoedema services.
“Our aquatic therapy pool is unique in this regard. It is wonderful to be able to bring this service to Logan so that our community can enjoy the various benefits that hydrotherapy offers in a dignified environment, specifically designed for people with limited mobility and various illnesses and injuries.”
Hydrotherapy, also known as aquatic therapy, has proven to be a game-changer for individuals dealing with various disabilities and injuries.
The warm water’s buoyancy offers a respite from gravity, allowing movements that might be challenging on land to be able to be practiced.
This form of exercise promotes muscle relaxation, increased joint mobility, and is a safe environment to practice balancing tasks.
The facility offers an array of specialised hydrotherapy equipment tailored to client’s unique needs.
The pool is accessible for the majority of people by using a hoist with platform and sling options and with accessible bathrooms.
One of the most significant advantages our patients find is their increased ability to perform simple functional tasks that can be taken for granted.
When asking one of our patients who regularly attends sessions, they noted being able to sit for longer independently and the increased strength in their arms has meant that they can drink from a cup with more ease.
The hydrotherapy is making a difference in their everyday life and slowing the progression of their disability.
With the support of the community Fizzio For Life has been able to add new staff, new classes, and extended hours to the clinic.
This year they plan to add another CANMove class which is run in conjunction with Logan City Council’s Active and Healthy Living program, as well as additional hydrotherapy group sessions.
“I look forward to seeing what the future holds with the support of the Logan community – thank you again for this nomination, it’s a great boost for our team morale.’ Mr Gilbert added.
