The area around Logan Hospital is a key hub for the City of Logan, and Logan City Council is proudly investing in vital upgrades starting soon.
Council’s aim is to develop parts of Meadowbrook into a health, wellbeing and education precinct.
We are developing a ‘Healthy Street’ environment that is safe for pedestrians and cyclists and encourages local development and investment.
Over the coming months, the community will start to see:
- A signalised pedestrian crossing between Logan Hospital and Meadowbrook Shopping Centre across Loganlea Rd
- Road modifications to convert Loganlea Rd from four to six lanes in some sections
- Shared paths (up to 3 metres wide) from Loganlea rail station for pedestrians and bicycles
- Additional safety cameras, upgraded lighting, public artwork, seating and shade structures
These upgrades will not only make it easier for people to access health services in Meadowbrook, but they will also help attract more investment, which in turn will deliver more services and more jobs.
These works were identified as priority projects arising out of the Council-hosted Meadowbrook Summit in September 2018.
They are being funded from the $5 million Meadowbrook Implementation Fund endorsed by Council and from grant funding by the State Government under the Unite and Recover program.
Our works in the area coincide with the $460 million expansion of Logan Hospital, which is well underway.
Several other health-related development projects in Meadowbrook have also been approved or proposed, including:
- A $30 million four-storey medical specialist centre and day hospital in Nestor Dr, which is within walking distance of Logan Hospital, Logan Heart Centre and Loganlea train station
- Plans for a private hospital and specialist hub on a site across the road from the public hospital
- A $20 million multi-level medical precinct on Logandowns Drive, which is suitable for medical and allied health operators, medical imaging services, health professionals and specialists
The Queensland Government also has plans to relocate the Loganlea train station closer to the Logan Hospital entrance in the near future.
This $95 million investment shows how important the precinct is for our community’s wellbeing and economic prosperity.
I’m excited to see ideas become reality to better our neighbourhoods.
