Re: MyCity Logan, December 22, you ask what should happen to resurrect Springwood.
As far back as the 1980s, when it was considered a bit far out of Brisbane, Springwood was touted as being a thriving half-way point to the Gold Coast.
Businesses have come and gone. Some stayed, but most of them moved on at some point.
The car yards have always been at the heart of the suburb, and some people spent money on homes in behind the highway.
While it is easy to see how people thought the suburb would be the capital of the southwest, it’s also easy to see how it hasn’t really lived up to the hype, particularly with Mt Gravatt on one side, and now – as Kerry Armstrong points out – with Loganholme drawing some interest to the south.
The whole of Logan has become a bit fragmented.
With so much good intention, I wonder whether a bit more sustained focus to grow emerging hotspots might have sped things up a bit.
