With reference to your article (MyCity Logan, September 5-11) on hooning havoc.
A lot of hooning is brought about by very noisy exhaust systems, where by the hoons attract attention to themselves before burn outs etc.
There is a law that states what the maximum decibel level is for a motor vehicle and many today are way above this level .
I have spoken to several traffic police officers on this subject, and have received the same answer: It’s too hard to police.
In my younger days it was common to be booked and fined for a noisy exhaust system that was either worn out, damaged or modified.
I have had several elderly people comment on how frightening and distracting it is when a vehicle speeds away from a stop light etc.
A good fine, vehicles returned to a manufacturer’s state by a certain date/time.
