Logan Hospital’s $1 billion expansion is well underway, with upgrades to critical services soon to be completed.
The hospital will soon open a new Imaging Department featuring the latest technology in diagnostic imaging, which is intended to “increase capacity for this critical service”, according to Metro South Health chief executive Noelle Cridland.
“Construction on Logan Hospital’s major expansion program is powering ahead with a range of new and improved services set to come online by early next year,” Ms Cridland said.
New medical wards, a new intensive care unit, a new coronary care unit, and an expanded emergency department, expanded special care nursery and expanded palliative care unit are all set to progressively arrive starting early next year.
The most recent upgrades to arrive at the hospital was the new Transit Care Hub, Maternity Inpatient Unit and Birthing Suites, which included eight new birthing pools to give soon-to-be mums more birthing options.
There were also upgraded support services including a new kitchen, back of house and maintenance services upgrades, construction of a new modular ward and 1500-space car park.
These improvements are part of stage one of the expansion project, with the $530 million stage two set to begin next year.
The second stage will deliver a brand-new clinical service building with 112 additional beds and more operating theatres.
The Queensland Government’s record investment in Logan Hospital includes $460 million for the Stage One Expansion Project, delivering 206 beds and treatment spaces in addition to the 56 beds delivered through two recently completed modular wards.
Several of these new areas are already open.
There is also $530 million for the Stage Two Expansion Project to deliver 112 beds and more operating theatres – currently in design.
Another $18.8 million is set aside for the refurbishment of the hospital’s Maternity Service, which includes the inpatient ward and birthing suites that recently opened, with the remainder opening in nex year.
A further $61.92 million was put towards a new multi-level car park that opened in early 2022.
At the end of the project there will be four new floors added to the hospital, 318 additional beds and treatment spaces, and a new clinical services building.
