Crash zone gets $4.8m lifeline

“Notorious” accident black spots throughout Logan are due to receive $4.8 million dollar upgrades.

Seven sites across the city with a history of serious crashes have been identified for improvements, including:

  • Bumstead Rd and Julie St, Crestmead
  • Logan Reserve Rd and School Rd, Logan Reserve
  • Browns Plains Rd and Fifth Ave, Marsden
  • Browns Plains Rd and Waller Rd, Browns Plains
  • Johnson Rd and Forestdale Dr, Forestdale
  • Plunkett Rd, Tamborine
  • Veivers Rd, Cedar Creek

The intersections at Bumstead Road and Julie Street, and Logan Reserve Road and School Road, will receive traffic signals.

Flashing signals to warn west-bound drivers of the upcoming intersection at Browns Plains Road will be installed, which Logan City Council says will also “help protect queued traffic turning right”.

The slip lanes at Browns Plains Road and Fifth Avenue will be getting signal modifications and raised crossings to improve pedestrian safety.

Guardrails, additional lighting and road-shoulder widening will be implemented along Plunkett Road and Veivers Road.

Council received funding for the upgrades from the federal government’s blackspots program, adding to council’s $121 million investment in capital projects across Logan’s 2400km roads network.

Logan’s infrastructure chair and local councillor, Teresa Lane, welcomed the funding.

“This funding will result in safer intersections for local motorists and demonstrates the positive benefits for everyone when all levels of government work together,” Ms Lane said.
