Electric cars not right for police

I see that the Queensland police are getting electric cars.

I hope they asked some expert on electric cars for advice on them performance wise.

The initial cost is $80,000, double the price of a petrol car – $40,000 extra would get a lot of fuel.

A replacement battery is at least $26,000.

A police patrol averages 480km a day on a standard 8-hour shift.

They, according to the manufacturer, can do 360kms on a full charge which takes at least 8 hours.

So that car will not be available for the next shift to go on patrol, so you would need another fully charged car ready for the next patrol.

God help the crew if they are in a pursuit of a stolen vehicle half way through their shift especially if it was a hot day with the air conditioning on.

In some countries the arse is starting to fall out of electric cars due to shortage of power.

Volvo have already announced they are cutting back on production of electric cars mainly due to shortage and expense of batteries which are increasing in prices.

By the way, I am an ex-police officer.
