People still not wearing seat belts

Police are continually frustrated by the number of people who refuse to wear seat belts.

Serious and fatal crashes continue to rise in the Logan District with some injuries and deaths as a result of vehicle occupants (both drivers and passengers) not being properly restrained with a seat belt, they said.

“Wearing a properly adjusted restraint reduces the risk of fatal or serious injury by half,” police said.

“On average, 31 people are killed and 166 seriously injured on Queensland roads each year as a result of not wearing a seatbelt or an appropriate restraint.

“Drivers and passengers are around eight times more likely to be killed in a road crash if they are not wearing a seatbelt.

“Forensic crash investigators see the effects of people not wearing their seatbelts all too often.

“When you are driving, it is your responsibility to make sure that everyone in the car is wearing their seatbelt.”

In the Logan District alone, police said they had seen a number of drivers and their passengers travelling without being buckled up in just the last couple of months.

Logan Police will continue to intercept motorists and ensure that everyone in the car is appropriately restrained as we continue getting closer to the Christmas period.

Ensure you’re buckled up – all we want and all your loved ones want is for your to arrive safely this Christmas.
