A Logan bred musician is returning home for a screening of his new film.
Mark Gray, who was raised in Springwood, will be delighting viewers at the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct with ‘Eddie Ray – Silence of the Jam’.
Mr Gray describes the hour long film as a comedic “post-apocolyptic, motorcycle cowboy, musical film sort of thing.”
It follows a man, Eddie Ray, facing a world where music has stopped and society is run by smart phones – featuring live music played and composed by Mr Gray himself.
“Eddie Ray is basically a more exaggerated version of me,” he said.
“He’s Superman and I’m Clark Kent.”
Mr Gray fondly remembers his childhood in Logan, but said he felt unique – closer to the fringe.
“Growing up, I couldn’t ever see anything that represented me. When I make stuff… it’s for people who like what I liked as a kid,” he said.
“That’s why I put in cool things [in the film] like motorbikes and I managed to get a Monaro in there. I wanted to make something that represented all the thing’s I’m into.”
The first screening of Silence of the Jam was a success, selling out completely with an audience of 300.
“It was the first time we had showed it to anyone,” Mr Gray said.
“Until you show it to an audience you don’t know if it’s actually going to be funny or not.
“I had this feeling of relief wash over me hearing a full house laughing.”
Mr Gray said that everyone is welcome to his Logan screening, and assures families that the film contains only one swear word.
“Switch off your brains and be entertained,” he said.
Eddie Ray – Silence of the Jam is playing at the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct on 25 March.
