Roadworks, as far as the eye can see
It’s quite impossible to miss the progress on the M1 and Busway expansion, especially as the Veloway bridge takes shape through Springwood, in the colours of Logan – the vibrant yellow and blue.
I’m proud of securing the funding for this job creating project, but I also understand at times there’ll be an inconvenience as the roadworks inch further South every day.
That’s why I’m thankful to the Department of Transport and Main Roads team for helping keep you up to date – to make the process as pain free as possible.
The best way to do that, has been to keep the lines of communication open between myself, the project team and residents of our community.
To that end, there’s some major changes happening right now including temporary closures of the Rochedale Road exit.
Then commuters will see the Fitzgerald Avenue off-ramp close, but this time it’s permanent to make way for the Busway extension to Loganholme.
The changes are likely to mean some of us will need to work out new routes and make new plans.
It’s comforting to know the Department engages regularly with the platforms behind apps like Google Maps, so whatever changes, asking Siri will make sure you get the right info to get you to, or from your destination on time!
If you’d like more information on the project, including closures and new opening ahead of time, the Department hosts all the information you need to know at this webpage: https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/
Great news for Logan!
For everyone fortunate to be able to, there is dignity in work. And the good news is data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that 19,000 more people are employed in Logan than 12 months ago.
Unemployment rates across Queensland’s regions continued to fall in August highlighting the continued strength of Queensland’s economic recovery.
Earlier this month, the ABS announced Queensland had achieved our lowest ever recorded unemployment rate of just 3.2 per cent.
I’m proud of our record of supporting local businesses through our signature Buy Queensland procurement policy, keeping your money, here on Queensland soil, creating more opportunities for locals.

New trails are open at Daisy Hill
Here in our neighbourhood, we know how popular our local bushland has become, especially for those looking to get out and enjoy a ride or walk with family and friends.
It’s brilliant to see all the work coming along on the trail and park projects at Daisy Hill.
Huge thanks to all the locals who’ve volunteered their time on the Design and Delivery Group who’ve guided this project!
The trails are sensational with more upgrades still to come!
The stage two projects include:
improved disability and mobility access from the Dennis Road entry to the day-use area
additional car parking at the Daisy Hill mountain bike trail hub
a purpose-built horse float parking area that leads to the shared trail network
new amenities at the Daisy Hill trail hub
improvements to the mountain bike trail and walking track networks-providing new mountain bike trails of varying distances, and user-specific routes to maximise visitor safety and enjoyment.
I’m looking forward to working with locals and user groups to deliver even more improvements to recreational facilities and accessibility across our community.
Can you help Roman walk, run and jump?
I’m sharing this Shailer Park family’s story to see if together we can help them out.
Literally every day I meet amazing people in our neighbourhood like Sarah, Dave and their son Roman, but these guys are doing something incredibly challenging.
Roman was born with cerebral palsy which affects his ability to balance, stand and walk independently. It’s called spastic diplegia cerebral palsy and Roman gets around using a walker, or he crawls, whilst his mates are able to run, play footy, ride, skate and do all the things little boys love to do.
The great news is that it can be fixed with highly specialist surgery.
Sarah and Dave need to take Roman all the way to St Louis, USA, to receive this life-changing treatment by renowned surgeon Dr TS Park.
This is a massive expense but Romans family just want to give him a chance to be able to walk alongside his big sister Isla, and his mates, so we’re getting around them to help raise the funds they need.
I know our community will get behind them; if you can support Sarah and Dave to give Roman a shot at being able to walk, just follow the link below:

Liveable homes for all – it’s a human right
Just like Darryl Kerrigan says in the great Australian movie, our homes are our castle. They are where we raise our family, experience some of our greatest joys and challenges, where memories are made.
So that’s why it’s so important that we’ve changed housing laws – because it will mean our elderly locals will be able to stay safely and securely in their castle for longer.
For the elderly, people with a disability or a permanent injury, finding a home that is accessible, safe and fit for purpose can be incredibly challenging.
Small things that most of us never notice around our homes, make getting around a house an often insurmountable challenge for them. Things as simple as a step at the front door.
We’ve made historic changes to the National Construction Code 2022, making homes more accessible for people with mobility challenges.
This is especially important for our growing population of seniors in Logan but also for families with young children and people who suffer temporary injury or a permanent disability.
To retrofit a house to make it more accessible costs tens of thousands of dollars, whereas including these important features upfront Is just a fraction of that saving households tens of thousands in the long term.
The new construction code will commence on 1 May 2023, with the Modern Homes Package, including building accessibility and new energy efficiency measures to commence on 1 October 2023.
