Housing affordability has become one of the biggest challenges facing so many people across Logan.
Every day we are hearing and seeing that better solutions are needed.
Premier David Crisafulli promised to fix the housing crisis but instead house prices have soared in Logan, locking out the next generation.
Rents are higher and vacancy rates are at record lows.
At the same time, the Crisafulli Government has cancelled almost 10,000 social and affordable homes across Queensland, while they instead build luxury homes for the wealthy.
It’s left teachers, nurses and other essential workers struggling to find a home they can afford close to where they work.
More people are being pushed onto the social housing waitlist.
More people are having to move further away from their family ties and where they work.
More people are experiencing homelessness.
Once something that was more common in the city areas, Logan’s suburban parks and
shopping centre carparks are seeing rough sleepers regularly.
Housing is too important for politicking.
It affects every part of our lives, from the cost of living and workforce shortages to community safety.
It’s why Labor has released an issues consultation paper to guide our response to
Queensland’s growing housing affordability crisis.
This paper will be the foundation stone of Labor’s vision to restore housing affordability in
Queensland.
We will travel across the state to listen directly to Queenslanders to inform this piece of work, starting right here in Logan.
On Tuesday 18 August, we’ll be hosting a Housing Forum here in Logan, and we’d love you to be part of the conversation.
