2021 is the 100th birthday of Soroptimist International, a worldwide service organisation advocating on behalf of women and girls.
There are 78,000 members in 124 countries.
Clubs throughout the world are encouraged to raise the profile of the organisation through this 100th anniversary.
The eight clubs in the southeast region of Queensland were able to speak with Brisbane City Council.
We were able to have an 18m banner installed on the Story Bridge for two weeks, as well as have the Victoria Bridge, Story Bridge and associated sculptures in Brisbane lit up in blue and gold (the club’s colours).
Brisbane City Council also spoke about our work on their website in conjunction with the lighting of the bridges.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner and Lady Mayoress Nina also hosted a cocktail event for 100 soroptimists last week.
