Yarrabilba is rallying around local baker after attack

The Yarrabilba baker attacked while working in his shop has thanked the community for their support.

Rainbow Bakery owner Long Kry was hospitalised after a group of youths allegedly kicked the bakery door and threw a rock at Mr Long, breaking his leg on Saturday, 6 June.

A 16-year-old Yarrabilba boy was charged with grievous bodily harm, attempted enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence and wilful damage.

The Yarrabilba community rallied around Mr Kry, with Rogue Auto Styling setting up a gofundme and Barbers on the Block holding a community barbecue to help support the father-of-two while he recovers from surgery to his leg.

The gofundme has received 218 donations totalling more than $10,000.

Mr Long’s wife posted a message on the Rainbow Bakery Facebook page.

“Long and I would like to thank our dear friends and family and the Yarrabikba community for their support and encouragement,” Ms Kry said.

“It gives us strength to persevere and keep moving forward and reminds us all that there is always hope.

Ms Kry said the incident had caused a cascade of damage for her family.

“Not only is our business in jeopardy, but we could lose our home,” Ms Kry said.

“My husband may never walk normally.

“[He] had a 12+ hour surgery to place metal rods in his leg and removal of muscle tissue from his thigh to plug the hole in his legs.

“He is curently in a stilt and waiting for rehabilitation to begin.

“He misses our bakery and wants to get back into it, serving our community with fresh bread,” she said.
