Depression affects anyone and one of the region’s community centres is vowing to do something about it.
The Logan East Community Neighbourhood Centre is hosting a series of workshops which they’re calling the “Healthy Ageing Hub Project”.
The project aims to build the capacity of seniors and people caring for seniors to manage some of the concerns they face as they get older.
For example, difficulty managing at home, social isolation, mental health issues, or limited family support.Â
The first of five free workshops will be this coming Friday, July 2, from 12.30pm-1.30pm, and this one will focus on issues associated with depression among elderly people.
There’s a light lunch and after the workshop, participants can arrange a confidential face-to-face session with a professional to speak about any concerns.Â
“Are you feeling consistently sad or withdrawn, feeling irritable and losing interest in doing things?” the promo material says.
“This workshop will help you to recognise the signs of depression and its effects on your behaviour and the way you think and feel.
“If depression is starting to affect the way you’re living life, it’s important to find help, and use some practical tools to support you in feeling better and help a loved one (or a friend) experiencing depression.”
