Good old-fashioned fun kicks off at Tansey Park this coming weekend, so who’s up for a wheelie bin race?
Lauren Norris loves her community, and Loganholme Cricket Club is very much part of that.
As a small business owner she was frustrated that she had to travel to find a good handmade market, so she’s combined her passions to build Tansey Park Community Market, kicking off with the first event this Saturday, September 26.
After attending a trivia night before coronavirus hit, she was inspired by the community’s desire for face to face contact, and saw an opportunity for more events such as trivia, bingo or karaoke.
“I feel like we should know all our neighbours from our small hidden local,” she said.
This is what led to something bigger. Tansey Park Community Market will have about 70 stalls at its first event and is at Tansey Park, 108 Tansey Drive, Tanah Merah, from 9am-2pm.
“We are unsure yet if this will be a monthly or quarterly event,” Lauren said.
“We are waiting for public reaction to determine this, but we would love to look at doing some future events as afternoon or evening markets also.”
The markets support Loganholme Cricket Club as well as other local sporting clubs and causes.
There will be food trucks, plants and garden ware, produce, arts and crafts, homemade goods, boutique stores, kids toys, an animal farm, pony rides, community awareness and information stands.
And what fair wouldn’t be complete without a mega-raffle and sausage sizzle. The sausages come at the cost of a donation. And the club has a bar onsite.
“Bring your picnic blankets,” Lauren said.
“When is the last time you had a picnic with the family? We have limited tables and chairs, but we have plenty of grassy areas to sit with teh family.”
Oh, and as for that wheelie bin race. Sign up on the day!
And there’s plenty of parking – for your car, not the wheelie bin.
