Council’s new plans for waste water treatment at Loganholme are a big deal.
It’s not only the $100 million price tag that makes it important. Rather, it’s the way that the city intends to dispose of huge amounts of waste which would otherwise pollute our environment.
And it would seem that with closure of the Beenleigh plant, all council’s eggs will be tipped into the Loganholme facility.
Engineers have done the sums and they argue that the move will save ratepayers millions of dollars over the next 20 years in operational costs.
Already, more than $27 million is committed to innovation which will turn sewage sludge into renewable energy.
And updated equipment must lead to higher efficiencies.
Technology aside, the bottom line of the latest round of spending is that the city’s capacity will be increased to process more waste over a shorter period of time.
It’s a good sign that the latest group of councillors are prepared to spend money to ensure we’re able to cope with huge growth.
