A COMMUNITY vigil to remember a father and son who were killed by an alleged drink driver in Regents Park will be held today.
Braiden Timmins, 33, and his four-year-old son Hendrix-Hemi Te Rongomau King, were allegedly hit by a ute on Green Road as they walked to get ice-creams on Sunday 17 August.
The tragic accident prompted a wave of community support, and only days later a vigil had been organised for Thursday 28 August.
Local Claudia Escobar has invited members of the public to remember the father and son with a flower, candle, or orange ribbon at Sunrise Park at 5pm.
The alleged driver of the ute, a 41-year-old man from Regents Park, was taken into police custody the day of the accident and charged with two counts of manslaughter.
“It will be alleged the driver returned a positive Roadside Breath Test,” a police spokesman told media.
“He was then conveyed to hospital where a requirement was made for a specimen of blood to be taken.
“Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit (FCU) and Logan District Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) are ongoing.”
GoFundMe pages to help Mr Timmins and Hendrix’s families pay for funeral costs and other support have been set up.
Hendrix’s mother, Lily, used the page to thank the community for its support.
“I am so grateful to the police and detectives who are working on the case, the ambulance services who looked after them and to the members of the public who were first on the scene and stayed with my baby until emergency services arrived,” she said.
“Your kindness means more than anything.”
Hendrix was described as full of “joy, cheeky grins, andboundless love”.
“He lit up every room he entered and brought so much happiness to his family and friends,” fundraiser organiser Shanon Hoet said.
“His life was cut far too short, and we are left heartbroken, struggling to comprehend a world without him.”
