Urgent care at new clinic

A new Medicare Urgent Care Clinic has opened at the Browns Plains Medical & Dental Centre.

The clinic is open extended hours, seven days a week and there is no need for an appointment.

It is geared to ease pressure on Logan Hospital, with more than 22 per cent of the hospital’s current emergency department cases classified as semi-urgent or non-urgent.

Local MP and federal treasurer Jim Chalmers said the Logan clinic would treat patients suffering from “broken bones to burns, coughs, colds or cuts”.

“… you can head straight to the clinic rather than to the emergency department,” Mr Chalmers said.

“The new Logan Medicare Urgent Care Clinic will ensure local families can get bulk billed care when and where they need it, without an appointment.

“More bulk billing is one of the best ways we can help to ease the cost of living in our community without adding to inflation and that’s what this is all about.

“This centre will deliver quicker care, closer to home for lots of people at the same time as we free up the hardworking doctors and nurses at Logan Hospital to focus on saving lives.”

Ten other Medicare Urgent Care Clinics are set to open across Queenland by the end of 2023, including in Bundaberg, Ipswich, Rockhampton, Cairns, Southern Brisbane, Northern Brisbane, Gold Coast, Redcliffe, Townsville and Toowoomba.
