A man who was admitted to Logan Hospital with a brain injury hours after he was allegedly assaulted, has died.
The 52-year-old presented to the hospital on Sunday (5 January night) with a significant brain injury, according to police.
“Investigations indicate the man was assaulted near Rudyard Street, Inala, around 6.30pm,” a police statement on 8 January read.
“Several hours later, police were called to Logan Hospital around 12.30am on Monday, January 6, after a man presented with significant head injuries.
“The man, a 52-year-old, was transported to a specialist care facility, however passed away last night.”
Logan detective inspector Chris Knight said there were “quite a few” unresolved circumstances surrounding the investigation.
“He was transported to Logan Hospital by some friends, people we have spoken to,” Mr Knight said.
“They provided an account of their movements and the movements of our victim on Sunday evening leading up to that time.”
“They have assisted us and are continuing to assist us.”
He said the friends witnessed only “portions” of the assault, and police needed public assistance to fill in the remaining gaps.
“By the time he arrived at hospital, he was in and out of consciousness,” Mr Knight said.
“The significance of his injuries at that stage were considered severe.
“By the time we received notification of the injuries, we have not had the opportunity to speak with him.”
Police also declared a crime scene at a property in Hillcrest, where police say the victim visited prior to the assault.
“We believe he met up with some others at this location (Rudyard Street) and he was assaulted,” Mr Knight said.
“It’s not common, it doesn’t happen everywhere.
“Even though we are in a populated area, Rudyard Street itself is not busy.”
Police have recovered a RAV4 belonging to the victim, and continue to appeal for anyone with dashcam footage, particularly along Government Road at Richlands between Archerfield Road and Forest Lake Boulevard, between 6.15pm and 6.45pm on Sunday 5 January.
