Trail blazes path to literacy

A Greenbank residential community has joined forces with a literacy program to build an interactive walkway for local children.

The First 5 Forever family literacy program has lent its expertise to the 1565-block Covella community to build a ‘Discovery Trail’.

The trail is described as an interactive walk designed to locate six trail markers scattered across the community’s parks and playgrounds.

Each marker comes with a QR code to various online educational learning activities.

Bruce Harper, the executive general manager of the estate’s developer, said the trail would help bring people together.

“Through the delivery of community events and activations like this, residents have the opportunity to engage, learn, share and connect with their neighbours,” Mr Harper said.

“We have always placed an importance on promoting an active lifestyle and giving residents the opportunity to spend quality time outdoors with family and the broader community and this initiative mirrors both educational and environmental benefits.”

First 5 Forever is a Queensland Government-run initiative in collaboration with the State Library of Queensland.

Thousands of partner organisations and agencies have engaged with libraries to deliver First 5 Forever programs.

The Greenbank community also hosts First 5 Forever and Logan City libraries at a monthly story time initiative, which involves “intentional and educational” play with local children.
