Thieves, sharks, and midnight Maserati mayhem

The dog squad, air and water police were needed to capture two alleged car thieves following a dramatic car-chase last week.

The chase started late at night in Loganholme and ended early the next morning in the shark-infested Logan River, where one of the alleged thieves attempted to flee.

Police saw a Maserati, which was stolen from an Eagleby property the night before, driving dangerously along Beenleigh Redland Bay Road.

With assistance from Polair, they tracked the car to Burchill Street where they successfully deployed a tyre deflation device.

The Maserati continued travelling before it was abandoned along Omaru Street, where police say two alleged occupants fled on foot.

Police caught and arrested an 18-year-old Daisy Hill woman nearby, but the alleged driver fled into the Logan River.

The dog squad and water police helped find the 21-year-old Loganholme man sometime later, and he was taken to Logan Hospital with minor injuries.

He was charged with robbery, unlicensed driving and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The Daisy Hill woman was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter premises and commit indictable offence and two counts of receiving tainted property.
