A freshly renovated Tanah Merah property going for over $1 million looks like it belongs in one of Brisbane’s more affluent suburbs.
Sales agent Melinda Lee-Ball from Bell Property said 147 Pohon Drive had undergone “bespoke”, modern renovations that made the house a standout in the suburb.
“The attention to detail is something you would see in Bulimba or Ascott – it is remarkable,” she said.
“Tanah Merah has good quality homes, but I have never seen it at this level.”
Ms Lee-Ball said the suburb had “really grown up” in recent years.
“Demographically it has changed a lot,” she said.
“Historically, it used to be primarily investors.
“Now I would say it is about 85% owner occupiers and families that have moved into the area.”
According to Ms Lee-Ball, this change and growth was driven mostly by affordability.
“You can get in under $1 million and get a lot of value for money, being so close to the Gold Coast and close to the city.
“But those homes are not renovated to this standard.”
She said the owner of 147 Pohon Drive sought to turn the 650sqm block into his family’s “forever home”, making changes tailored to their liking.
The house features high quality fixtures throughout, S-bend custom curtains, a butler’s pantry and more.
“He was building this home and meticulously renovating it,” Ms Lee-Ball said.
“In the ensuite for example, they have installed a bidet – a really expensive, high-end $2000 dollar toilet.
“When you open the cabinetry in both bathrooms, he has put the sockets and power switches recessed in the cabinetry.
“He has also made the shower niches full length with LED lighting.”
The current owner also customised the walk-in-wardrobe in the master bedroom, installed a $2000 light fitting in the kitchen, and removed the cornicing from the ceilings.
“When you walk in, the square-set makes it feel grand and high, and it modernises the look,” Ms Lee-Ball said.
She said there were two demographics that would suit living in a home of this style.
“A couple with no children, because it is quite an executive home – however, the owners who currently live here do have a daughter, so it does suit families because it has a child-friendly backyard.
“It would also suit someone looking to downsize because it is not an overly huge yard – flat, grass, and not a huge garden.”
She said it was mostly singles and young couples making enquiries about the property.
