Sustainability a worthwhile industry to hang our hat on

For the second week in a row, we have a front page story about people doing great things for our environment.

Last week’s was Tim Johnston, a man from our city who listed his battery recycling business on the New York Stock Exchange.

This week’s is a little different, in that the people in the story come from outside our territory, bringing their skills into Logan and sharing those skills with about 150 staff.

Instead of moving elsewhere to achieve their success, they’ve shown great faith in the city of Logan.

Their mission is great for a number of reasons.

The big picture benefit is an ability to move 4000 tonnes of waste away from landfill. This is the tangible environmental benefit.

Economically, we will likely see about $43 million injected into the local economy.

It’s also a win for our council, which lobbied BlockTexx to bring its sustainability project here.

Waste, recycling and sustainability is huge business. Many companies are looking for ways to contribute to solutions which will help avert crises associated with our community’s consumption – and indeed production – of trash.

Our Australia-first biochar project at Loganholme is a major milestone. Now with poly-cotton recycling, we have a platform on which to attract other international projects.

Be proud, Logan. This is a worthwhile industry to hang our hat on.
