Students in a local classroom are spending their free time making nutritious lunches for those who would otherwise go without.
Currently we supply 30 lunchboxes for 2 days per week to 2 local Primary Schools, Browns Plains State School and Regents Park State School.
A year 12 class at Browns Plains State High School (BPSHS), led by Mrs Pearson, recently joined up with The Tukka Project to prepare and serve dozens of meals to local schools.
Currently, the class supplies 30 lunchboxes twice a week to Browns Plains State School and Regents Park State School.
According to hunger relief charity Foodbank, around 22% of Queenslanders experiencing hunger are children, with many going to school without breakfast or lunch.Â
Mrs Pearson’s class is out to change that.
“I think it is a worthy cause as we our helping members in our community who are in need,” she said.
“It gives the year 12 students a chance to make a contribution to the community.
“They enjoy preparing the food each week, knowing that they are making a difference to students who are in need.”
The school’s principal, Ben Ward, agreed.
“Community is a core value at Browns Plains State High School and the Tukka Project is a wonderful opportunity for our students to genuinely assist local families,” he said.
“The Tukka project provides our students with a genuine opportunity to give back to their community and learn the importance of supporting people in need.”
