Student artist in first solo exhibit

Former Redeemer Lutheran College student and emerging Logan artist Teresa Poon is holding her first solo exhibit at Logan Art Gallery.

The exhibition is part of a mentorship at the 2019 Artwaves exhibition.

It showcases the creativity of secondary school students from Logan and adjacent areas.

Under the mentorship, Logan Art Gallery staff have supported Teresa over the past year to develop her own exhibition under the title The ripple effect: out of Artwaves.

She will join Brisbane artist Claudia Husband and an interstate travelling exhibition for the gallery’s next round from today to Friday, November 28.

Claudia’s Purple Rain exhibition features a series of lithographs and works on paper.

It highlights the yearly jacaranda season and the blanket of purple blooms which cover many South-East Queensland streets each spring.

Rounding out the program is the travelling exhibition Stopping Time: Material Prints 3000 BC to Now.

The exhibition features original objects, prints and artworks – some are thousands of years old.

They are on loan from the Griffith University Art Museum, the Newcastle Region Art Gallery and several private collections.

The exhibition tells the story of the printed image from ancient Mesopotamia to now.

Admission to the gallery is free.
